Sources checked 2026-10-22 and 2026-10-23: ONCF’s Marrakech-Fes timetable grid (PDF, valid from 15 September 2025), a live fare search on oncf-voyages.ma for Wednesday 4 November 2026 (1 adult, both directions) and ONCF’s conditions of sale. Fares and times can change, so check the date you travel.
Times and journey length
There are 14 direct trains a day in each direction on the 4 November search. From Marrakech the first leaves at 04:30 and the last at 17:35. From Fes the first leaves at 04:35 and the last at 17:35. Between the two there is roughly one train an hour (05:30, 06:35, 07:35 and so on).
The scheduled journey is about seven hours:
| Departure | Arrival | Time on the train |
|---|---|---|
| Marrakech 04:30 | Fes about 11:33 | 7h03 |
| Marrakech 06:35 | Fes about 13:33 | 6h58 |
| Marrakech 17:35 | Fes about 00:27 | 6h52 |
| Fes 17:35 | Marrakech 00:37 | 7h02 |
Every departure on the search was a direct Al Atlas train, with no change needed. The train stops at Casa Voyageurs on the way (about three hours from Marrakech, per the ONCF grid), then Rabat, Kenitra and Meknes. If your plan is Marrakech to Casablanca only, see the Casablanca to Marrakech train guide.
The 04:30 departure does not run on Sundays and public holidays (ONCF grid). The first two trains of the day are also the slowest at 7h03. Before you book anything tight, remember that a 17:35 departure puts you in Fes after midnight.

What a ticket costs
On the 4 November search, the fare was the same on nearly every train, which is not the case on the Casablanca to Marrakech line:
| Class | One way, 1 adult | About in EUR |
|---|---|---|
| 2nd class | 260 DH | 24 EUR |
| 1st class | 350 DH | 32 EUR |
EUR figures use a rough 10.8 MAD per EUR, check the day’s rate. The one exception we saw was the last train from Fes, the 17:35 (arrives 00:37), marked “places limitees” at 170 DH in 2nd class and 290 DH in 1st. That looks like a late-train discount rather than a published fare, so do not count on it. The ONCF fare list can change, so check the current price on oncf-voyages.ma before you plan.
Discounts
Small groups of 3 to 9 people get 10% off in 2nd class and 15% off in 1st class on Al Atlas trains. Buy at a station counter for the full 3 to 9 range, since the online reduced-fare option stops at 6 people.
Children aged 4 to 15 pay a reduced fare, and children under 4 travel free on an adult’s lap without their own seat (ONCF conditions of sale). The exact amount is shown at booking.
YALLA AL ATLAS is a 49 DH flat 2nd class fare with limited seats, sold at least a week ahead. ONCF’s page did not show whether Marrakech to Fes is eligible, so check at booking.
Stations and where to sit
Take the train at Marrakech station, which is outside the medina, so allow time for a petit taxi (check the meter). In Fes, the train arrives at the city’s main station, then a taxi to your medina riad. Pick a drop-off point as close to your riad as taxis can go, since the old town has no car streets.
Your ticket is valid only for the train, date, time and class printed on it. ONCF’s conditions do not say whether a standard ticket gives you a numbered seat, so look at your ticket and ask the staff in the carriage.

Luggage
ONCF allows hand luggage you can carry and lift yourself: suitcases, travel bags and backpacks, up to 1.2 m x 0.6 m x 0.4 m. We did not find a limit on the number of bags, only the size and safety rule (do not block the aisle). Folded bicycles, skis, folded strollers and surfboards in a cover are accepted, one item per passenger. Keep your bags in view even in the racks, because ONCF is not responsible for unattended luggage.
Booking
Tickets are sold at station counters and on oncf-voyages.ma, where you pick the exact departure and see the price before paying. Fares were flat on the search and no Marrakech departure was marked as limited, but availability changes, so check your own date. For the same trip by road or in a rental car, see getting around Morocco.
What to plan for the day
Seven hours is a full travel day. Take food and water, and charge your phone before you leave. If you want to break the trip, Casa Voyageurs and Rabat are on the same line, so you can stop and take a later train with a new ticket. Fes itself is best with a full day, so avoid the 17:35 train unless you have a hotel booked near the medina entrance. The full route planning, including how many days Fes deserves, is in the Morocco itinerary.
