Casablanca Travel Guide: Between Flights and Beyond

Casablanca is where many trips start or change trains, so it helps to know the practical side before you land. Below: the airport train, onward trains, the Hassan II Mosque and the tram, with the prices we found on official sites. For the wider route see the Morocco itinerary and for budgets the Morocco travel cost guide.
Sources checked 2026-10-23: the Hassan II Mosque foundation (fmh2.ma), oncf-voyages.ma (searches for Wednesday 4 November 2026, 1 adult, 2nd class) and the Casablanca tramway’s own site. Prices and hours change, so check them before you go.
Is Casablanca worth a stop?
Casablanca is the country’s business city and its main arrival point, and most trips pass through it on the way to somewhere else. It has fewer postcard sights than Marrakech or Fes. It has one that is worth planning around, the Hassan II Mosque, and it is the easiest place in Morocco to change trains. If you land here, a half day is enough for the mosque and a walk by the sea if you start early. A full day lets you add the old medina and the Habous quarter. Two nights make sense only if you like big cities.
Getting in from the airport
Mohammed V Airport has its own ONCF station. Trains run to Casa Voyageurs, the city’s main station, in about 41 to 43 minutes, hourly from about 06:00 (05:55 from the airport, 05:57 from the city on the date we checked). The fare was a flat 60 DH in 2nd class (about 5.5 EUR at roughly 10.8 MAD per EUR). Unlike most ONCF routes, no train on that search showed limited seats.
Many onward trains leave from Casa Voyageurs, so you can often continue without going into town. Casa Port is a different station near the old city. Check the station name on your ticket.
Trains from Casa Voyageurs

All times and prices below are from the 4 November 2026 search, in 2nd class, one way. They change by train and by how early you book.
| To | Time | Price seen |
|---|---|---|
| Rabat Ville | 59 min to 1h02 | 40 to 50 DH |
| Marrakech | 2h54 | 120 to 135 DH |
| Fes | 3h55 to 4h05 | 59 to 130 DH |
| Tangier (Al Boraq) | 2h17 | 129 to 225 DH |
The Rabat trains run every 15 to 40 minutes from early morning, which makes it the easiest day trip from Casablanca. Details for the other routes are in the Casablanca to Marrakech train guide and getting around Morocco.
The Hassan II Mosque

The mosque is open to non-Muslim visitors on guided visits only. Per the foundation’s own site:
- Foreign adults pay 140 DH, children over 6 pay 30 DH, children under 6 are free. Moroccans and residents pay 70 DH.
- Visits start at 08:00, 09:00, 10:00 and 11:00, with an afternoon slot at 14:00, Saturday to Thursday. On Friday the slots are 08:00, 09:00, 10:00 and 14:00.
- Cover your shoulders and chest, and wear clothes that reach the knees. Shorts are not allowed. You take your shoes off at the entrance and carry them in.
- Hours change during Ramadan. The site did not list closed days, but check fmh2.ma before you go.
Getting around the city

Casablanca has a tram. On the operator’s site a single ticket was 8 MAD, but 2024 press reports described a rise to 9 MAD, so expect 8 to 9 MAD and check at the machine. A rechargeable card brings the per-trip price down, with a 15 MAD card fee. We did not find official taxi tariffs, so agree the price or ask for the meter before you set off.
Practical tips
- Sleep near Casa Voyageurs if you have an early train the next morning.
