Taghazout Surf Guide Morocco's Surf Town Practical

Taghazout is the surf village north of Agadir. Below: the main breaks, the season, how to get there, and what lessons cost, with prices marked as reported. For the nearby city see the Agadir travel guide.

The surf: four named breaks

Clean waves breaking over a rocky point on the Moroccan Atlantic coast

Taghazout sits about 20 km north of Agadir on the Atlantic coast, and the surf here is built around a handful of point breaks. Surf guides describe them in roughly the same way.

BreakWho it suitsWhat guides say
Anchor PointAdvancedLong, fast right-hander, works from about 1 m and holds big swell
Hash PointBeginners to intermediateSofter and more forgiving, covered with sand in recent years
Killer PointExperiencedPowerful and a bit more remote, long right in front of a cliff

The downside: Anchor Point gets crowded when it works, and beginners are not welcome in the lineup when it is big. Start at a softer beach with a school instead.

When to go

Most surf guides put the swell season between October and March or April, with the biggest waves in winter. Summer is milder and smaller, so it suits first lessons more than point-break sessions. Sources do not agree on exact months, so check a surf forecast a few days before you book.

Getting there from Agadir

There is no CTM or Supratours coach to Taghazout or Tamraght (checked on both booking sites on 2026-10-24). Your options:

OptionPriceNotes
Local bus 32 or 33 from Agadirabout 7 MAD (5 to 11 reported)Roughly every 30 minutes, about 45 minutes, crowded, hard with a surfboard
Shared grand taxiabout 100 to 150 MAD reportedAsk for “grand taxi Taghazout”
Taxi from Agadir Al Massira airport300 MAD (ONDA fixed rate, Taghazout to Aourir zone)About an hour
Pre-booked airport transferabout 31 to 33 EUR reportedEasier with a board bag

Bus times and fares come from guides and change, so ask at the stop.

Coming from Essaouira, markoub.ma lists a coach to Taghazout at 50 MAD (2 h 30) or 65 MAD (1 h 45) for 108 km, checked 2026-10-24, with Itrane Voyage, Sahara Prestige and Pullman du Sud named on that route.

The ONDA fare of 300 MAD is roughly 27 EUR at the Bank Al-Maghrib reference rate of 22 October 2026 (1 EUR = 10.9953 MAD), a little under the 31 to 33 EUR reported for a pre-booked transfer. Split either between two or three people and the gap narrows.

Lessons and board hire

Independent schools usually quote in euros or dollars online. Two examples we found: a 2.5-hour group lesson at about 35 USD per adult on Expedia, and about 49 USD on an Airbnb listing, both with board and wetsuit. Hotel schools charge more (Fairmont publishes a surf menu). We could not find a reliable MAD price list for local schools, so check current price on the spot and compare two or three shops before paying.

Where to stay

The whitewashed village of Taghazout on a hillside above the ocean

Taghazout itself is a small village of surf hostels and guesthouses, with more hotels spread along the coast towards Agadir. Book early for December to February. Check the walking distance to the beach, because the road above it is steep in places.

Beginner spots

A sandy beach with gentle waves near Taghazout

One guide lists Croco, Panorama Point, Mysteries, Banana Point, Douze (K12), Onze (K11) and Devil’s Rock in Imourane as good beginner breaks, and names Anchor Point and Imsouane Bay as pro-level. Ask your school which break suits the swell on the day, because the best beginner spot changes with the tide and wind.

Surf camps

Many hotels in Taghazout and neighbouring Tamraght run week-long camps with daily lessons, accommodation and full board, which can be pricey in high season. One guide says to expect upwards of 30 EUR for a 2-hour beginner lesson. A 6-day surf and yoga retreat was listed at 450 EUR for a shared room and 600 EUR for a private room, with daily lessons and yoga included. Ask what is covered: board, wetsuit, transfers, meals.

Hostels and guesthouses

Booking-site listings show dorm beds from about 11 to 13 USD a night and private rooms from about 34 to 46 USD. One surf and yoga guesthouse showed a night from 50 USD in December 2025. These are undated listings in USD, so check current rates before you book. Hostels in Tamraght sometimes arrange airport transfers for a surcharge.

Yoga and rest days

Most camps include yoga. One guide says a drop-in class at a hotel costs about 120 MAD, and an eco-resort offers daily open-air classes facing the Atlantic. For a rest day, Paradise Valley is mentioned in guides as a place to hike through palm groves, not as a surf spot.

A simple week

Book the first lesson for day two, after the journey. Plan a rest day after three surf days, because shoulders and legs tire. Leave your last full day free for the weather, a flat day is common outside the main swell season.
