Marrakech Airport to the Medina: Taxi, Bus and Transfers

Travel guidePublished Last checked 5 min read

Marrakech Menara airport is close to the old city, and the choice is between a taxi, the airport shuttle bus and a pre-booked transfer. This guide separates what the airports authority confirms from what only travel guides report. For money, see the Morocco currency guide.

Sources checked 2026-10-23: ONDA, the Moroccan airports authority, for the taxi and bus information at Marrakech Menara, plus travel guides for the prices that are not published online. Where a price comes from guides and not from an official page, we say so.

What is official and what is not

ONDA’s page for Menara airport confirms two things. There is a taxi station on the esplanade outside the airport, and fares are posted at the taxi parking, not online. It also says a bus shuttle links the city and the airport every 20 minutes. The page does not give a fare, a route number or a timetable for the shuttle, and it does not publish a taxi tariff. So every price below comes from travel guides, which differ. Check the board at the taxi rank when you land.

Quick answer

The Marrakech Menara airport terminal with its lattice roof
OptionPrice reported by guidesBest for
Taxi from the official rankabout 70 to 100 MAD by day, sometimes quoted highergroups, heavy bags, most arrivals
Airport shuttle buscheapest option, fare not confirmedone traveler with light bags

At roughly 11 MAD per EUR (Bank Al-Maghrib reference rate of 22 October 2026: 10.9953), 100 MAD is about 9 EUR.

Taxi from the airport

Take a taxi from the official rank outside arrivals, and ignore anyone who approaches you inside the terminal. Airport taxis are generally not metered, so say where you are going, agree the total, and only then load your bags. Drivers often start above the posted fare, so look at the board first. Guides mention a higher rate at night. Many drivers prefer cash, so use the arrivals hall ATM and keep small notes.

The last stretch is the catch. Taxis cannot enter the narrow lanes of the medina, so you may be dropped at a gate and walk the rest with your bags. Tell your riad your arrival time before you fly and ask which gate to use. You can find well-placed riads in the best riads in Marrakech guide.

The airport shuttle bus

For years, travel guides described this as ALSA’s bus 19, at about 30 MAD. That is now out of date. Morocco World News reported in December 2025 that Supratours, ONCF’s coach subsidiary, took over Marrakech’s city bus network from ALSA. ALSA’s own site no longer lists Marrakech among its cities. We found no official fare or timetable for the airport bus under the new operator, so do not rely on the 30 MAD figure.

What we can say: ONDA lists a shuttle every 20 minutes. Ask at the information desk or at the stop for the current fare, the route and the last departure, and have some cash ready. Luggage space on city buses is limited, so with a large suitcase a taxi is easier.

Private transfer and ride apps

A pre-booked transfer costs more, but you know the price before you fly, and a driver waits in arrivals with your name. It makes sense for a late flight, children or a riad that is hard to find. Some riads arrange pickups, so ask yours. Check that the company tracks your flight.

Careem and inDrive were the ride apps travelers reported using, with the fare shown before you book. Pickups at the terminal can be inconsistent, so keep the taxi rank as your backup.

Late arrivals and the way back

After about 22:00, plan on a taxi or a transfer, since we have no confirmed bus hours. When you leave Marrakech, give yourself generous time for traffic, especially for an early flight.

If you are stopping in Marrakech for a few days, see the Marrakech travel guide and the day trips from Marrakech.

Parking at the airport

If you arrive by rental car, ONDA publishes parking rates for Menara airport (open-air cars): 6 DH for up to 1 hour, 9 DH for 1 to 2 hours, 11 DH for 2 to 3 hours, 15 DH for 3 to 4 hours, 17 DH for 4 to 5 hours, 22 DH for 5 to 12 hours and 42 DH for 12 to 24 hours. Heavy vehicles pay slightly more.
