Hot Air Balloon Marrakech: Prices, Tips and What to Expect

Balloon flights near Marrakech leave very early so you are in the air at sunrise. You float over the plain, with the Atlas on the horizon, then land for a breakfast in a tent. Prices and rules below come from operator listings and booking sites, so confirm everything before you pay.
Price
Listings range from about 95 USD for a flight with breakfast to about 252 USD per adult for a shared flight. One operator starts at 200 USD per person including hotel pickup, breakfast and a flight certificate. Private flights cost considerably more. The spread is large, so compare what each price includes: pickup radius, breakfast, certificate and flight length.
Prices on booking sites
A Marrakesh Ballooning tour is listed at about 113 USD per adult on Expedia, with hotel pickup, a continental and a Berber breakfast, a flight of roughly 40 minutes and about 5 hours in total. The same operator is about 131 USD on Travelocity and from 132 USD on AAA’s booking page, and a camel ride is an extra 20 EUR. Other listings are 237 USD (Tui Morocco, with breakfast) and 280 USD (a sunrise tour on Expedia). Prices change by date and currency, and some add taxes at checkout, so check current price. Several operators warn that people with altitude sickness are not suited to the flight.

GetYourGuide listings
GetYourGuide (checked 24 October 2026, 44 results) puts the standard flight at about 600 to 744 MAD: a sunrise flight with a rooftop breakfast and certificate at 575 MAD (4.8 from 1,810 reviews, private option), and a flight with a Berber breakfast at 744 MAD (4.8, 11,406 reviews). The top listing is run by Marrakech By Air, takes 5 hours with hotel pickup, and includes pastries and drinks at take-off, the flight over the Atlas foothills, a Berber breakfast in a tent and a certificate (4.8, 16,191 reviews). A few listings show prices as low as 69 to 145 MAD. Those figures look far too low next to the 113 to 280 USD above, we could not verify them at checkout, and we would not rely on them. Check current price and what the ticket includes.

How the morning works
- Pickup. Operators serve hotels or riads within roughly 10 to 14 km of the centre, usually around 5:00 or 06:00. The exact time is confirmed after booking and can vary with your location.
- Transfer. A 4×4 takes you to the launch site, where you are welcomed with Moroccan tea, coffee and pastries while the crew prepares the balloon.
- Briefing. The pilot gives a short safety briefing before boarding.
- Flight. It lasts about 40 minutes to 1 hour. You see rooftops, open land and, if the air is clear, the snow-capped Atlas.
- Landing and breakfast. You are taken to a Berber tent for a breakfast, reviewers mention fresh fruit, bread and spiced jam.
- Certificate. Most packages include a flight certificate with your name.
- Return. The whole outing takes about 4 to 5 hours.

Prices are in the currency each site shows, read in October 2026, and change by date. We have no official exchange table for USD here, so we do not convert them. The wide spread (about 95 to 280 USD) is mostly about what is included, so compare the right-hand column, not just the number.
Safety and rules
One operator states it is licensed under the Moroccan Civil Aviation Authority and carries passenger and third party liability insurance. That is the operator’s own claim, so ask to see the documents. Flights depend fully on the weather and can be cancelled or moved for safety reasons.
Restrictions differ by operator. Listings often exclude children under 4, pregnant women and people with limited mobility, and some set weight limits. One listing says guests over 120 kg should confirm before booking. We found no universal minimum age, so check the operator’s terms, especially for older children.
The downside: you can be cancelled on the morning itself, so do not book it on your last day. Ask what refund or rebooking applies.
Questions to ask the operator
- Can I see your licence and your insurance documents? (One operator says it is licensed under the Moroccan Civil Aviation Authority; that is its own claim.)
- What happens if the flight is cancelled for weather: a new date or a refund?
- How long is the flight itself, not the whole outing?
- What is the pickup radius and the pickup time from my riad?
- Is breakfast included, and what about the certificate?
- Are there weight limits or age limits for my group?
- Is the price per person, and does it change for a private flight?
What to wear
It is colder in the air than people expect, one reviewer advised a jacket. Early mornings in Marrakech are cool for much of the year, so layers and closed shoes are sensible. You will climb in and out of the basket.
Before you book
- Confirm the pickup time and whether your riad is inside the pickup area. Narrow medina streets may mean a meeting point.
- Check the cancellation policy and the weather rebooking rule.
- Ask the number of passengers per balloon and the flight duration.
- Check what breakfast includes.
Is it worth the money
It is one of the dearest single activities near Marrakech, so it makes most sense if you like flying and early starts. If the budget is tight, a walk in the Ourika Valley or an evening in Agafay costs far less. If you do book it, pick the first morning of your trip. That leaves room to rebook if the flight is cancelled.
Compared with other outings
Costs from our other guides help you decide. A camel ride in Agafay is reported at about 30 EUR and a quad bike from about 45 EUR. A shared taxi to the Ourika Valley is reported at under 2 EUR per person. A balloon at 95 to 252 USD is several times more than any of those, for a short, weather-dependent flight. If you are a family with small children, the age and weight limits may also rule it out.
Booking timeline
Book early in spring and autumn, when the weather is most settled and demand is highest. Confirm the pickup time the evening before, because it can change with your hotel location. Keep your first or second morning free, so a cancelled flight can move to the next day. Tell the operator about mobility or weight limits when you book, not on the morning.
Who should skip it
Anyone who dislikes getting up at 4:30, who is pregnant or who has limited mobility, according to common operator restrictions. If you are unsure, ask the operator for the written conditions before you pay.
