Hammam in Marrakech: Prices, What to Expect and Where to Go

Traditional hammam in Marrakech with zellige tiles, steam and a copper bucket

A hammam is a steam bath with a scrub, and in Marrakech you can have it two ways: the neighbourhood hammam where locals go, or a spa hammam in a riad or hotel. Prices below come from guides of different dates, so treat them as rough and check current price.

Public hammam

Entry is cheap. Guides quote 10 MAD, 30 to 40 MAD, or about 60 MAD with a scrub. An attendant’s scrub (the kessa) costs an extra 50 to 100 MAD. Some hammams offer a package, for example a scrub and a rhassoul mask for 170 MAD at one hammam near Mouassine.

At a public hammam you pay at the desk. You get a bucket, and sometimes a kessa mitt and a small portion of soap if they are not included. Most local hammams separate men and women by entrance or by hours, so check the schedule first.

Spa or riad hammam

Expect 250 to 450 MAD at places like Hammam de la Rose, about 300 MAD for a session with scrub and massage, or 500 to 600 MAD in a private spa. Luxury hotels can pass 1,000 MAD. Booking at a riad can come in under 50 USD according to one guide. Spa menus list short options of 30 minutes (hammam, scrub and an orange blossom rinse) and longer packages up to 120 minutes. A 10 percent service charge is not always included. Palace hammams should be booked at least a day ahead in high season.

Prices from a magazine and booking sites

National Geographic lists Hammam Mouassine, described as Marrakech’s oldest public bathhouse, at 10 to 250 MAD, depending on what you add, and Hammam Dar el-Bacha at about 10 MAD, cash only. It puts Les Bains de Marrakech, a private hammam with duo baths, at 220 to 450 MAD. Hammam de la Rose is described as theatrically decorated with rose facial masks and hot-stone massages, but we could not confirm its price. Lonely Planet notes that at a public hammam you bring your own supplies.

Booking sites sell packages that include a scrub, a massage and often a transfer. Listings we saw on Expedia run about 42 USD for a 1-hour hammam and massage, 48 USD for 2 hours with a black-soap scrub, and 63 to 74 USD for longer packages with a transfer. An Ebookers listing shows 49 EUR with hotel pickup. A third-party French travel site shows a Mouassine hammam experience at 22 EUR, labelled as a GetYourGuide product, which we could not check on getyourguide.com. These are marketplace prices captured on unknown dates, so check current price.

Listings checked

On GetYourGuide (checked 24 October 2026), hammam and spa experiences with a hotel transfer run from about 385 MAD for 2.5 to 3 hours (rated 4.4 from 1,316 reviews) to 500 MAD for a women-only hammam and massage (4.5, 759 reviews) and 590 MAD for a 2-hour massage and hammam (4.6, 3,700 reviews). A plain 2-hour traditional hammam is 405 MAD (4.5, 4,239 reviews), the cheapest 1-hour listing with argan black soap is 271 MAD, and a private spa at a palace-style hotel is 1,591 MAD. These are “from” prices per person with a discount shown against a higher list price, so check current price.

The same word covers a 10 MAD neighbourhood bath and a 1,000 MAD hotel session, so the price tells you the experience, not the quality. A 10 percent service charge is not always included in spa prices.

How a session works

  1. You go through progressively hotter rooms.
  2. Black soap (savon beldi, made from olives) is spread on the skin. Leave it for 10 to 15 minutes to soften the skin.
  3. The attendant scrubs you with the kessa glove. This is the main event and the dead skin comes off in rolls.
  4. A rhassoul mask (clay from the Middle Atlas) is optional.
  5. You rinse with warm then cool water. Some places finish with argan oil.

Plan 1 to 2 hours for a full session. Ask for the gommage scrub, it is not always automatic.

What to bring

Bring a bucket or bowl, plastic mat, savon noir, scrubbing glove, flip-flops, towel, toiletries and spare underwear, which you wear during the treatment. Some places rent or sell the kit on site. For example, one hammam makes you bring your own supplies but lets you hire all of it.

The downside: a public hammam is basic and the scrub can be rough. Choose a spa if you want comfort, or ask the attendant to go gently.

For first-timers

Go to a hammam near your riad that your host recommends, or book a spa if you are unsure. Avoid a hammam right after a heavy meal, and drink water afterwards. Do not bring valuables, most places do not have lockers.

Choosing a spa

Ask these questions before you book a spa hammam:

  • Is the room private, or shared with other guests?
  • How many minutes are the hammam, the scrub and the massage?
  • Are towels, robe and slippers included?
  • Is the 10 percent service charge added at the end?
  • What is the cancellation rule if you are late?

The same name can mean a 30 minute basic scrub or a 2 hour package, so compare minutes, not just the price. A 300 MAD session with scrub and massage and a 500 to 600 MAD private spa are not the same product.
