Morocco Tours and Packages: Reported Prices and What to Check

Tours save planning but usually cost more than independent travel. Prices come from booking marketplaces and a few operator sites, not from one official tariff, and they may differ today, so check current price. We could not find an operator-owned site for most of the trips below, which is itself worth knowing: much of the market is resellers.
What tours cost
| Trip | Reported price | Source type |
|---|---|---|
| Ourika Valley day trip, shared | about 13 to 74 USD per adult | marketplaces |
| Ouzoud waterfalls day trip, shared | about 14 to 31 USD per adult (21 to 26 USD in another list) | marketplaces |
| Agafay with camel, dinner and show | about 54 to 66 USD | tour sites |
| Hot air balloon, classic flight | 2,400 MAD, secondhand figure | a travel guide, not the operator |
| 3-day Merzouga tour, shared | about 99 to 300 USD, or 100 to 180 EUR | marketplaces and blogs |
| 3-day Merzouga tour, private or luxury | about 225 to over 1,100 USD | marketplaces |
| Chigaga, 3 days shared | 200 to 400 EUR | one comparison |
| Chigaga, 4 days | from 285 EUR (group of five), 940 EUR solo | one operator |
Private and luxury versions cost much more than shared ones on every trip, so compare like with like.
Prices in dirhams on GetYourGuide
GetYourGuide shows prices in MAD, checked on 24 October 2026 and shown as “from” prices per person with a discount against a higher list price, so check current price:
- Ourika Valley day trip with lunch: about 96 to 180 MAD, 7 to 8 hours.
- Agafay evening with quad, camel and dinner: about 187 to 198 MAD, 6 to 7 hours. A tent retreat with dinner and a pool is 534 MAD.
- Hot air balloon with breakfast: about 600 to 744 MAD. Lower numbers appear on some cards but look unreliable.
- Hammam and massage with transfer: about 385 to 590 MAD, 2 to 3 hours.
For comparison, a 3-day shared Merzouga tour at 100 to 180 EUR is roughly 1,100 to 2,000 MAD at about 11 MAD per EUR. We did not find an operator-owned price list in MAD for the desert tours.

Day tours
Ouzoud and Ourika tours are the cheapest, and Agafay packages sit in the middle. The shared Ouzoud price makes sense because it saves about 6 hours of driving. Check whether the boat ride at Ouzoud, lunch and entry fees are included.

Desert tours
A shared 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga tour follows the same route on almost every listing (Ait Ben Haddou, Dades, Todra, Merzouga), see the 3-day guide. Chigaga tours cost more because of the 4×4 transfers and smaller groups. Camp-only quotes of 600 to 1,200 MAD per person exist, but that is a different scope, so compare quotes line by line.

Tour or DIY
For the desert, a tour is often the easier choice, because public transport to Merzouga is limited to one overnight Supratours coach (450 MAD, 14:35 to 06:00) and you still have to arrange the camp. For Essaouira, Marrakech to Agadir and the Chefchaouen route, coaches and trains are cheaper than tours and easy to book yourself, see the transport guide. Ouzoud is the middle case: coaches stop at Beni Mellal, and you still need a taxi.
Tour or DIY: the desert in numbers
Using only the figures on this page, here is how a shared Merzouga tour compares with arranging it yourself. A shared 3-day tour is about 1,100 to 2,000 MAD per person (100 to 180 EUR at about 11 MAD per EUR). Doing it alone means the overnight Supratours coach at 450 MAD (14:35 to 06:00) plus a camp-only quote of 600 to 1,200 MAD, so about 1,050 to 1,650 MAD before the return journey, meals and any activities.
The gap is small once you add the return trip, which is why a tour is often the easier choice for this route. We found no official fare for the way back, so the DIY figure is a floor, not a total.
Is the operator licensed
Press reports say guides hold an official professional card under law 05-12, renewed every 3 years. We could not open the tourism ministry’s site (it gave a security error twice) and found no official online register of licensed guides or agencies, so you cannot verify a licence in one click.
Tour guiding is regulated in Morocco. Per an Airbnb help article, guides need a licence from the Ministry of Tourism, and an agency needs its own agency licence. Sources disagree on the issuing body, so ask for the licence number and the company’s registration, and be cautious if a company says it is official but cannot give you one. Official Canadian advice is to hire only guides recommended by hotels, travel agencies or tourist authorities.
Quick comparison before you pay
Lengths come from the GetYourGuide listings we checked on 24 October 2026. Use the right-hand column as a list of questions to send the operator.
| Trip | Length (from the listings) | What to confirm before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Ourika Valley day trip | 7 to 8 hours, lunch listed | Whether lunch and any guided walk are in the price |
| Ouzoud day trip | a full day (about 6 hours of driving saved versus DIY) | Boat ride, lunch and entry fees |
| Agafay evening | 6 to 7 hours | Quad, camel, dinner and show: which are included |
| Hot air balloon | flight plus breakfast | Flight time, pickup time, breakfast |
| Hammam and massage | 2 to 3 hours | Transfer, treatment length, towels |
| Merzouga, 3 days shared | 3 days | Camp, meals, camel, 4×4 or minibus, group size |
What to check
- What the price includes: meals, camp, camel, transfers, entry fees.
- Group size and vehicle type (a 4×4 for Chigaga).
- Who the actual operator is, because marketplace tours often resell local operators.
- The cancellation policy and the deposit.
- Pickup from your riad, and the return time.
The downside: marketplace tours resell the same local operators, so compare quotes before you pay.
Frequently asked questions
Are tours cheaper than DIY?
For desert trips the totals are close once camp, coach and return are counted (about 1,100 to 2,000 MAD for a shared 3-day tour against a DIY floor of 1,050 to 1,650 MAD). For Essaouira, Agadir and Chefchaouen, coaches and trains cost less than tours.
Why is Chigaga dearer than Merzouga?
The listings we saw point to 4×4 transfers and smaller groups.
Do tours include meals?
It depends on the listing. Agafay evening packages list dinner, the Ourika day trip lists lunch, and the balloon lists breakfast. Check the inclusions line by line.
Can I cancel a tour?
Check the cancellation policy and the deposit before you pay, since policies differ by operator and listing.
How do I know the operator is real?
Ask for the licence number and the company registration. Guides need a professional card under law 05-12, and we found no official online register to check it, so the document itself is the check.
Are the prices on this page what I will pay?
No. They are “from” prices and reported figures, read on 24 October 2026. Check the current price on the booking page.
